The European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research, in short the European Centre, is an intergovernmental organisation affiliated to the United Nations. Its purpose is to foster the collaboration between governments and organizations in the field of social welfare. The European Centre was established in 1974 in Vienna, based on an Agreement between the United Nations and the Federal Government of Austria as the Host Government.
