Objectives: The project aimed to perform quantitative and qualitative in-depth analyses of ageism in selected Central and Eastern European countries, with a specific focus on the meso-level manifestation of ageism, and now the challenge can be addressed via policies on the example of Poland.
Results: The project tried to answer the question of how different cultural and political contexts and welfare regimes are associated with ageism in the labor market. The study was partially based on existing open-access data, involved survey data collection and was enhanced through qualitative interviews. The innovation of this project lies in the fact that it addressed the topic not only in a ‘pure’ academic way, but also advocated for practical actions by using theories and research results to suggest change in policies towards older people/older workers. The findings from the quantitative part were verified by the interviews with target interest group. The ESR plans to confront the results with employers, employees, and policy makers to produce change. A policy brief on the topic is prepared together with ERS 3.
Secondment(s) (Months), co-Supervisors: EC, (3m), Anette Scoppetta; UNECE, Gaucaite (6m). The first secondment was geared towards developing a more comprehensive understanding of cross-national differences regarding ageism in the labour force. An additional goal of the secondment was to gain experience in an independent scientific institute and to get feedback on the preliminary results of the research and on the forms of their presentation. The second secondment was geared towards helping the ESR move the research findings into policy and practice.
