Online panel discussion on science-policy interaction in the field of ageism
Using Research on Ageism for Policy
Tuesday 22nd June 2021 at 12h00 CET
EuroAgeism is a multi-disciplinary, multi-sectorial, science-policy international network of researchers, policymakers, and social and health care professionals. The network is dedicated to the training of a new generation of Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) in the fields of population ageing and ageism to enable them to function effectively and comfortably at any of the intersections between science and policy. Relevant research and policy fields include psychology, sociology, policy, economy, clinical pharmacy, engineering, design, social network, computer science, geography, nursing, gerontology, gender studies, labour studies, law and anthropology.
To further equip ESRs with knowledge and skills that will allow them to produce policy-oriented research and seize career opportunities within and beyond the traditional field of academia, we organise a panel discussion with research actors and policymakers. The ESRs will interact with the panel members to discuss the value of researcher engagement in policy development.
The following questions will be addressed during this online panel, which will last approximately 2 hours:
- What are some of the pros and cons of engaging with academic research from the perspective of policymakers?
- What findings are most useful to policymakers?
- How to identify, target and engage with policymakers?
- What are some examples of successful collaboration between researchers and policymakers and/or evidence-based policy reforms?
- What lessons can be learned from such experiences?
