Prof. Ayalon received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology. She did her internship and postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco. She is currently a full Professor in the school of social work at Bar Ilan University. Here research is focused on three major areas: ageism- discrimination based on age, the intersection between formal and informal care and social networks of older adults. Her work has been funded by the German Israel Foundation, the Israel Science Foundation, the National Insurance Institute of Israel, the Israel National Institute for Health Policy Research, and the Israel Ministry of Health. She is currently the chair of a COST Action on ageism (IS1402) and the coordinator of a Marie-Curie Innovative Training Network on ageism (EuroAgeism), both funded by the EU, under Horizon 2020. She is also a member of the WHO core group to combat ageism.
