The ITN EuroAgeism is devoted to research on ageism and the education of a next generation of excellent ageing researchers. Early stage researchers (ESR) will be enrolled in a PhD program in their host institution. To establish a universal PhD training program in the field of ageism and ensure the sustainability of EuroAgeism beyond the lifetime of this grant, we propose that an ESR should complete the equivalent of 180 credit points for a 3 year PhD and 240 credit points for a 4-year PhD. During the 36 months training at EuroAgeism, each ESR will be required to earn 180 credit points. The bulk of these credit points consist of the training through research (160 ECTs).
The remaining credit points are for training directly related to ageism and the acquisition of transferable skills. We designed the network-wide program to complement the ESRs with the essential building blocks needed for evidence-based research to support policies on ageism.
We aim to qualify strong ESRs to pursue positions as scientists, educators science advisers, policy advocates, lobbyists, or legislators through
- Individual research projects
- Network-wide training as part of the ITN’s training schools
- Local training based on ESRs’ needs and the host PhD program’s requirements
- Attendance of national and international conferences of relevance
- Participation in ongoing science-policy dialogues in the field of ageism
- Secondments to expose ESRs to different sectors and disciplines
